Addressing climate change from a very small personal scale using the hummingbird as a symbol of strength and fragility simultaneously.
As females we build our nests with whatever is at hand, we search for sustenance and joy, we nurture our young. As uncontrollable events unfold, we change what we can and create beauty where we must.
Clean air and water, trees to help cool, filter air and keep the water cycle intact, are all crucial to our survival.
Starting in 2018, I embarked on a mission to bring awareness to our endangered trees. I researched the causes and locations, traveled to different parts of the country and photographed 26 of these Vulnerable and Vanishing trees. Back in the studio for the past 6 years, I painted large scale trees including, where possible, the cause of destruction in the bark. At the same time , I developed panoramic photographs, reversing the trees to the negative in their faded environment to emphasize their loss and the effect on the ecosystem. This work has been the recipient of three grants and is ongoing. It will be shown in its entirety starting at the Macon museum of Arts and Sciences in November 2025 and will travel the country.
