Currently, my practice revolves around creating shape and line of pod-like and leaf forms. I utilize light and shadow to create repetition of motif as well as play with the interaction of two and three dimensions. These layered works are made by stitching sheer fabrics and thread to create delicate veils; burning, cutting and stitching together dead leaves; and suspending pods and leaves connected with string off the wall to create positive and negative cast shadow drawings.
My work centers on forms and images from nature and memory. Since relocating to Florida from New York, I have been compelled to collect pods, leaves and husks from the street. I want to express the idea of the neglected and overlooked, the passage of time and its’ accompanying decay, and a sense of loss through a reverent scrutiny of these common objects in the here and now.
Focusing awareness on our mortality as well as that of our planet’s are layered with memories of our time here, and how precious is the beauty of life on earth.
I have exhibited extensively in New York’s Hudson Valley and Florida, and recently in Berlin, Germany. My work is in numerous private collections and as a former gallery owner I have curated many exhibits. I have a BFA with honors from the University of Hartford Art School and have won numerous awards.
