Inspiration

I paint mermaids. Swim for miles, scuba dive on the coral reefs, search for octopus, search for puffer fish, search for hammerhead sharks, search for sea turtles, search for mermaids.

I imagine them when I am swimming laps in the pool, canoeing in the everglades, and in unusual places like a field of flowers that I might come across on a hike, where there is no water for them to swim.

I have a strong connection to nature, and look for the sparkle in the dew, the glimmer on the water, the nocturnal glow and the bio-luminance of the ocean.

Material

Acrylics on canvas, with a mixed media aspect including mother of pearl tiles and abalone shell, hand beaded lace fabric, genuine swarovski crystals, 24k gold and silver leaf, and cork. Original canvas sizes are 20X24, 24X36, 30X40.

Bio

I was born by the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. After college, I joined the Peace Corps and lived in a small seaside town in Haiti, four and a half steps out the door to the Caribbean. Now I live in Florida by the Atlantic Ocean with my husband, Robin and my puppy Sheldon. We are foster parents and are looking forward to our next placement (A little girl to share my love of mermaids with). We enjoy cycling for too many miles, scuba diving from the beach in South Florida, backpacking on the Florida trail, and traveling the world.
