James Cotton

I am a British-born filmmaker, who has written and directed short films that are firmly within the genres of thriller, action and comedy. I enjoy themes of justice and revenge, with twists and turns. There is always sardonic humor in my work, and I always aim to entertain audiences to the max.

I received a Masters degree in film producing from the UK’s National Film & Television School (2011), and have worked within the film industry for over a decade – producing, co-producing and line producing feature films in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. However, writing and directing projects is now my focus.

My most recent work as writer/director is the short thriller, DAGGERS DRAWN (2021), which was filmed in Palm Beach County and had its World Premiere at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival’s 2021 edition. Before that, my kung fu action comedy short, TIGER CLAW (2019), won numerous awards including Best Comedy at Hollywood Florida Film Festival’s 2020 edition.

I have three further short projects as writer/director slated for 2022, all to be made in Florida.

Please do get in touch if you feel as though we could collaborate, or you have any advice for someone new to the state. And finally, of course, if you have any inroads towards attaining ever-elusive film funding, let me know! 😉
