Born and raised in south Alabama to a lineage of artists, Kelsey Paz Snyder resisted the natural calling to be one herself for years. She veered off the path her heart was telling her to take and ventured down the television and film industry path for awhile in New York City. Studying Film and TV at Auburn University, this seemed like the instinctive next step in her career. But it wasn’t. So she went back to school for floral design in Los Angeles, California and went down the path of the floral industry for awhile. But this still wasn’t sticking. Having learned graphic design from her professional graphic designer mother and countless mentors along the way, she ventured down that path next and this felt closer to what her heart was telling her to do. It wasn’t until she had a child of her own that she knew she had been resisting the calling all these years. Seeing herself through her son’s eyes changed all of that though and she decided to finally take herself seriously as a fine artist in 2020. Nature has constantly been the base of inspiration for Kelsey. Growing up barefoot in the woods or on the beach, she has always been submerged in the aw and beauty that nature provides. This translates into all of her art regardless of the medium she chooses to use. These paths and life’s turns, however, are not lost on her. She pulls from life’s experiences as the narrative for her art, relating it back to not only her life’s journey but yours as well if she can. Our lives are all interconnected with each other and with nature and she hopes her art is able to tell that story.
She is a multi disciplinary artist working in mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, and charcoal. Her most recent body of work utilizes pieces of nature into the pigments, crushing local shells into a fine pigment and working it into her acrylic paintings. This allows both her art and nature to collide in such a way that feels fully immersive. This collection also carries deep meaning of pushing through painful times in our lives, breaking down those hard pieces, and turning them into something more beautiful on the other side of that pain. These shells have been a healing process for her and hopes this can resonate with collectors in the same way.
Kelsey currently resides in Delray Beach, Florida with her husband, JD, their beautiful son Hudson, and their dogs YaYa & Pappouli and cat Hemingway. She is open to commissions that fit within her style of work.
