Rita Vetterlein was born in Florida to European parents and has had the pleasure of residing in the Northeastern United States and Scandinavia, specifically Sweden. She is fluent in Swedish and, being a perpetual student, has attended many great institutions including Yale University, Mount Holyoke College, the American University of Paris, Stockholm University, the International Art School of Stockholm and Forsbergs School of Design in Stockholm, Sweden. A graphic designer by profession, it was her early introduction to the Met that encouraged her interest in the visual arts.

Artist Statement:

Stemming from a Scandinavian background, an appreciation for the wonders of the natural world was instilled in me from a very young age. It is these essences I attempt to incorporate into my artwork worked in various mediums including acrylic, pastel, oil, watercolor and collage. I am open to experimenting with mediums and materials of all types, both old and new, as I am a restless soul. I especially try to incorporate items in support of recycling. Throughout my life, art has served as a form of stimulation, meditation and engagement. My hope is to share and encourage conversations about the spectrum of human emotions and how we engage with our communal and only home. Forever evolving as a human being, so to evolves my artwork as an artist.
