Steve Brouse

Artist Steve Brouse started the year 2024 by being a creative member of the new Cultural Council’s “Arts In My Backyard – Family Saturdays” program, offering free family art events in Palm Beach County. Steve’s cardboard sculptures class was an astounding success and “it was wonderful to see the families work together and spend quality time”.Since 2005 to the present, as a Teaching Artist for Center for Creative Education (a non-profit organization), Steve continues to teach art to children at various public and private elementary schools and other locations in the county. As an artist member of the Lot 23 Artist-in-Residency Program (established by the West Palm Beach CRA/Community Redevelopment Agency in partnership with Center for Creative Education), Steve offered children and their parents many years of “FREE” Family Art & Fun art classes. “Both these positions offered me great opportunities to further develop my art and keep it “fresh”.

Steve’s art training includes a degree in graphic design, and from that discipline evolved his passion for painting. His preferred mediums are acrylic paint (primarily), as well as oil and enamel. Clearly inspired by 80’s pop culture, including artist Keith Haring, earlier artists such as Picasso and Chagall and influenced by folklore, ancient symbolism, and contemporary art, encouraged Steve to refer to his art as “Primitive Pop”. Working with children allows Steve to consistently expand his creativity and his choice of mediums, incorporating watercolor, clay, and Paper Mache. Throughout his career he has been involved in local community art events and benefits, such as painting murals, picnic tables, playhouses, an award winning coloring book titled “Sandy”, etc. as well as also creating painted furniture, banners, logos, sculpture, and other 3-D forms.

Steve’s driving force and creativity are best expressed in his own words: “My paintings develop from figments of my imagination and most importantly, directly from my heart. Painting leads me to a cool and calm place where I like to be and which I like to extend to my students. My whimsical and eclectic subject matter allows me to aspire for a better tomorrow, towards a world full of color, peace, and harmony for all. My painting process allows me to communicate universal empathy and is inspired by form, color, and movement in ways that fill negative voids. There is a repeating character that has appeared in most of my pieces that is my source of inner awareness. Thus, my motto is: For thoughts of dreams and how they can be, let visions of color bring harmony.
