Symantha Jones is an interdisciplinary artist based in South Florida. Jones’s process of creation is tangled with the nostalgic, often a shallow reflection of the poignant lessons of history, therefore bittersweet and regretful. She accumulates materials, constantly searching for the unusual properties of the cast aside, adding the broken, marked, and imperfect pieces of someone else’s history into her own collection of imperfection. Symantha’s current body of work incorporates narrative elements that evoke the unpredictable and transient nature of memory. In 2019 she was the recipient of the Women in the Visual Arts, Inc. Scholarship Fund as well as the Velia Sweet Award. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and in the United Kingdom, most recently, at The Studio Door in San Diego, and Art Serve in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
In addition, Jones is an avid researcher, writer, and art instructor. She specializes in teaching foundational art practices such as drawing and design, as well as, mixed media and ceramics. Her current research and writing explores the ephemeral nature of memory, bodily experience, and hauntological theory, specifically as it correlates to the lived space of home.
These interests align with Symantha’s current art practice which includes: drawing, painting, silverpoint, collage, assemblage, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking. She combines these disciplines to create works that range from miniature vignettes to larger than life install ... view more »
