Born in Beijing, China, Tianying Lan was inspired by her grandmother at a very early age. She started learning traditional Chinese painting or “Guo Hua” from her grandmother before primary school. During high school, her interest shifted towards oil painting. Her travel to The British Museum opened the door for her to Western art. Though fine arts is not Tianying’s major, painting and drawing have always been essential to her life and identity. By working on her artworks, she not only expresses her views and feelings, but also explores the world and gets connected with people’s emotions. After moving to the US in 2014, she has been continually exploring different themes and artistic styles from the East and the West.
