Tonya Williams

Never did I imagine that when I graduated from FAMU, I would have my BA in Fine Arts. Hello, my name is Tonya Williams, and I am a mixed media artist.

Ever since I was a little girl, I LOVED to draw but never thought I’d actually become an artist. My major was actually stumbled upon due to my receiving a request to draw for a fraternity member at my dorm. My work was seen due to something I drew for my mom and I was told the art department would be perfect for me. The rest is history.

My love is for portraits. I love the realism that is accomplished through the use of charcoals, pastels, graphite, acrylics, crystals… pretty much anything that I can use to turn what was, into something brand new. Most of my work are commissions from people who want to recreate past photos or create brand new memories by transforming their backgrounds or adding loved ones who weren’t there at that given time.

I am a custom portrait artist. My clients are my inspiration. I listen to their thoughts, feelings and ideas to create pieces unique to them and their loved ones. I collect their chosen photos and come up with ideas until we find the perfect custom fit.
