From the Mediterranean to the Big Easy and far beyond, composers such as Berlioz, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, Ferde Grofé, and others have captured the infectious joy, reverence, and drama of the Carnival season. The program opens with the exuberant Roman Carnival Overture, continues with a soulful stroll alongside the saints of Orleans, and then takes flight to Rio to dance the Carioca with Fred and Ginger.
Hora Staccato a rapid Romanian dance, characterized by a fast pace and a playful, technical, and staccato-heavy theme, features the exceptionally talented Kyle Mechmet on soprano saxophone.
Additional musical selections include Manhã de Carnaval a Brazilian Bossa Nova often titled A Day in the Life of a Fool, highlights from the classic 1927 Broadway musical Show Boat, John Philip Sousa’s With Pleasure—Dance Hilarious, and much more.
Tickets are $25 and are available by phone at 561-207-5900 or online at www.SymphonicBand.org.
