The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) is an independent research institute dedicated to understanding how neural circuits give rise to perception, behavior, and cognition. Located in Jupiter, Florida, our scientists investigate fundamental questions in neuroscience through rigorous, cutting-edge research.

Beyond our laboratories, MPFI is committed to fostering public understanding and engagement with science. Through events like Brain Exploration Day, our biennial celebration of neuroscience that draws hundreds of community members for hands-on demonstrations and interactive learning, we make the excitement of brain science accessible to all ages. Science Meets Music connects our research to the broader cultural landscape, exploring the intersection of neuroscience and artistic experience. These programs—alongside our lecture series, internship initiatives, and STEM outreach—reflect our belief that excellent science is strongest when it’s shared and understood by the community it serves.

MPFI is part of the Max Planck Society, a network of 84 institutes across Europe dedicated to fundamental research in service of humanity. The Max Planck Society is the world’s number one nonprofit biomedical research institute, as ranked by Nature.
